These are the primary vaccines you should be familiar with:

  • Panleukopenia (feline distemper) can be given to healthy 5-6 week old kittens at FLR.
  • FVRCP can be given to kittens at eight weeks of age or the time of spay/neuter. Boosters need to be given every three weeks until 16 weeks of age. FVRCP is a triple vaccine for:
    • Feline viral rhinotracheitis, which causes sneezing and discharge from eyes and nose (URI symptoms)
    • Calici virus, which causes oral ulcers and symptoms similar to FLR and can progress to pneumonia
    • Panleukopenia, a usually deadly disease that causes loss of appetite, bloody diarrhea and/or vomiting, leading to extreme lethargy and collapse.
  • Rabies is given at 12-16 weeks of age by a veterinarian.
